San Marino has its own army, it includes about 100 people. Military personnel are mainly engaged in participating in national holidays and meeting foreign delegations. There is no compulsory military service in the country, but all citizens between the ages of 16 and 55 can be called up for military service in certain circumstances to protect the state.

Another interesting fact, the country adopted its own chronology, which dates back to the creation of the state – from the year 301, according to which San Marino is now only the 18th century. It is also noteworthy that the Republic of San Marino takes the world championship of the country with the shortest mandate of the head of state: the country is ruled by two regent captains who are elected by secret ballot of the majority of votes of the Great General Council and remain in their posts for only 6 months. Captains take office on April 1 and October 1 of each year. In second place on this list is another state bordering Italy: Switzerland. There, the head of state holds a position of 1 year. Interestingly, the San Marino judicial system until 2002 provided that only foreigners could be judges. This position was later changed.

San Marino is a parliamentary republic that does not have this written constitution. The system still refers to the “Ancient Customs” and the Charter of the Republic. The fundamental law of the Republic of San Marino is the 1974 Declaration of the Rights of Citizens.
